They’re All Big Days, Honey

In the late 90s – transitioning from the youthful fun of my younger adult years into a stage of my life that left a lot to be desired, I began watching the show ‘Providence’. I found it to be touching much of the time, and sometimes even thought-provoking.

In one certain episode the main character Sydney was “talking” to her deceased – and still chain-smoking – mother (as she regularly did), fretting over something I can’t at all recall. What I have remembered clear as day since then, however, was the mother’s response to her daughter’s angst-ridden, doubt-driven approach to life.

After Sydney lamented about something vague to her mother-turned-mentor on the “other side”, Mom gently told daughter that she should get ready for bed and be excited about the following day to come, mentioning something about it ‘being a big day’.

Curious and now somewhat hopeful, Sydney asked how her mom knew something great was going to happen. To which her mother replied,

“They’re all big days, Honey.”

And thrown for a loop, I was.

So I had to ask myself how often I go to bed excited about what the next day will bring… The answer was bleak, but I was inspired. I knew I had to take matters into my own hands and do whatever it took to re-aquaint with this openness and lust for life.

Fast forward 15 years, Dream Life Designing was born to help others at similar crossroads. ; )
